August 11th, 2011 : SIRC meetings returned to Hotel Hellsten from it’s summer holiday location in downtown Stockholm. As this was the first formal weekly meeting of the new Rotary Year Art Kosol, our outgoing president, kicked off the meeting by handing over the reigns to our new president for the year Tomas Sveinsson.
Tomas promptly took over and proceeded to welcome all members back after the break and introduce visiting Rotary guests from Italy, Mr. & Mrs. Pierluigi Fiori of Perugia Est. RC and Steingrimur Jonsson, Past President of The Louis de Geer RC in Norrkoping. RC flag exchanges then took place with Steingrimur taking the opportunity of telling us a bit about the De Geer family and how the club came to be named after Louis de Geer.
The speaker for the evening was Assistant Governor for District 2350 (our district) Margareta Hoelcke who gave an inspiring talk about “What it means to be a Rotarian”. Margareta then took questions from the floor for a few minutes before Tomas handed her our “Certificate of Appreciation” for her speech.
Finally, we finished off the evening by having drinks and food that Frederick Svanberg from Gourmet Foods kindly supplied. On the whole a great kick-off for the year with lots of enthusiastic members keen to get going in tackling the plans set out for the club for the year.
