On Thursday evening 17th February we first of all had the pleasure of listening to our main guest speaker H.E. Hee-yong CHO the current ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Sweden. During his excellent and most gracious talk he reviewed the 60 years of bilateral relations between Sweden and Korea since the Korean war. H.E. Hee-yong CHO then looked back on 2009 and reviewed what they have done on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the year 2010, the 60th commemorative anniversary of the Korean war. Finally, H.E. Hee-yong CHO said a few words on how he sees future relations between the two countries evolving.
Following the talk and after a lively Q&A session S.I.R.C. Vice President Mats Hultberg had the pleasure of presenting H.E. with an official Certificate of Appreciation to mark the occasion.
Our second speaker of the evening was Joel Burns, a local politician from Fort Worth. Texas who was visiting Stockholm to receive an honorary award from QX, a popular website for the Gay community in Sweden. Joel, a former GSE student in Sweden, became a national celebrity in the USA last autumn when he gave a powerful, emotional and gripping talk about the plight and sometimes tragic suicide of mobbed gay teenagers in the USA.
