Although all the recent media attention has centered on the heavy rains and flooding in Australia little attention has been given to what has been happening in Sri Lanka where rain has caused severe flooding in the Central, Eastern and Northern provinces.
The floods and mudslides have led to 24 reported deaths in these areas. The most affected areas are the Batticaloa and Ampare Districts where it is estimated that well over a million people are affected by the floods.
In a response to an appeal put out by The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency a few weeks ago Stockholm International Rotary Club took a fast decision to donate 2000 SEK from it’s Emergency Relief fund to help those victims of the floods.
