Cry for Help : Sri Lanka IDP’s

Recent news coming out of Sri Lanka reports that the number of IDPs (internally displaced persons) has now surpassed 250,000. The Sri Lankan government and a number of NGO’s are attempting to provide basic shelter, food, medicine and water to these growing numbers of Tamils living in detention camps following the end of the war with the LTTE. However further help is needed over the coming days, weeks and months if a humanitarian catastrophe is to be avoided.

Stockholm International Rotary Club has been approached by one of Sri Lanka’s most respected and active Rotary clubs, The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency (RCCR), for help in meeting this enormous challenge. RCCR and other Rotary clubs in Sri Lanka are closely monitoring the developing situation and on an on-going basis are establishing various projects aimed at providing water, food, medicines, sanitary facilities and related equipment to IDP camps in need as soon as shortages become apparent. Currently most of what is required is available in-country so the immediate requirement is for the money needed to purchase the items required. RCCR have therefore provided the following bank account into which donations to this cause can be made:

Rotary Club of Colombo Regency
A/c No: 001-003771-009
24, Sir Baron Jayathilake Mawatha, Colombo 1, Sri Lanka
Swift Code: HSBC LKLX

RCCR have also created a website where they are reporting on an on-going basis their humanitarian activities and the various IDP relief projects they are running or participating in. . By visiting this website on a regular basis Rotary clubs, Rotary members, other organisations and individuals in Sweden wishing to help out by making donations can keep themselves up-to-date with developments as well as read about the results/impact of the efforts made by RCCR.

Please consider making an early donation to this worthy and urgently needed cause.
