One of Rotary’s primary objectives is “to encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.”.
As a part of its efforts to promote this and contribute to its members’ and regular guests’ leadership skills their professions, personal lives and Rotary, Stockholm International Rotary Club (SIRC) is running a Leadership Development Program starting in November 2008. The Program is based on materials provided by Rotary International’s Leadership Education and Training Division and the resources and experience possessed by the club members themselves. In particular it aims to promote intergenerational learning by providing a structured forum for experienced Rotarians to share their insights with younger members, Stockholm based Rotaract club members and other Rotary guests from Sweden and abroad.
The Program is divided into ten different topics which are listed below. For each of these topics a club member or guest with particular experience and/or interest in that field will lead a discussion and possible group work at one of the club’s regular meetings every month starting in November. A different topic will be examined each month. The manual Leadership Development – your guide to starting a program published by Rotary International provides basic materials for each session – with Speaking Points, Discussion Points and Suggested Activities. These can be used as the basis of presentations, but individuals leading each session are free to choose their own format, bearing in mind the objective of the program to encourage exchanges between all members and intergenerational learning.
